Tutoring for your child could be compared to practicing a sport. You don’t just show up on game day. You spend time learning and practicing between games, and often, so that the skills become part of you.
Will it really work?
For over 20 years we’ve been helping students achieve some very impressive results. We recognize that each student’s learning style and academic challenges are unique, so we provide an individualized approach to tutoring. It’s our job to align instruction with classroom expectations, and build academic skills. We help students develop confidence and encourage students to channel their energy and apply their skills to gain the maximum result.
How often will my child need to attend tutoring?
The number of hours per week your student attends tutoring is totally up to you. Working together with you and your family, we will determine the number of tutoring sessions per week based on your child’s specific needs and your family’s schedule. Center hours are offered for your convenience, including afterschool, evening and weekend sessions.
Will my student see the same instructor each week?
To ensure continuity, students are nurtured by the same tutors who remain with them throughout the entire program whenever possible. In this environment, students can gain the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
What levels of students do you work with?
Tutoring is provided for students from Pre-K through high school, most college courses and adult instruction.
What is a typical session like?
We are delighted that there really is no typical session here. We tailor the program to each individual student, targeting strengths and weaknesses and then designing a path to success. Every One-to-One or small group session is fully customized, tailored specifically to the needs of the child. Rather than relying on pre-set lesson plans that limit student progress, we help each student develop a unique learning style of their own.
Do you help students with special learning needs?
We have helped students with a range of learning issues throughout our careers. Several of our teachers have masters degrees in special education, have been trained in multi-sensory instructional methods and have experience working with most types of special education programming.
We see learning as an interactive process in which student and teacher must work together to relate teaching and learning styles. Our teachers are aware that some students learn differently than others and, through flexibility in the learning environment, provide a variety of techniques and alternative strategies that help students master skills and concepts. Because our programs are individually designed, we are able to analyze each student’s learning characteristics, help them to build their strengths, and support them in becoming better-educated individuals. In short, it is more important for us to teach the way the student learns rather than have the student learn the way we teach. We are eager to learn about your child’s specific needs when you call us.
What Are the Attendance and Cancellation Policies
Our program is based on a standing weekly appointment. We’ve never met anyone who disputed the importance of regular attendance at school. In fact, we know of schools that give major awards for perfect attendance, and many students who strive for exactly that.
Focus, commitment, and consistency are important aspects of any training regimen; regular attendance is critical for success. Cancellations and no-shows interrupt our ability to deliver service, both to you and other students.
Although we do not guarantee make-ups for missed appointments, every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate each student so that his or her skill-building process will not be substantially altered.
Students should be punctual for all of their appointments; late arrivals may result in decreased session time.
How Does the Payment Work?
Payment is required in advance or on the day of service. Payment is accepted by check, credit card, or credit card authorization (Easy Pay). We accept Visa and MasterCard.
What kind of students can MERC help?
